We are looking for enthusiastic, collaborative and forward-thinking people to start their career with us this year by joining us on one of our apprenticeship programmes.
On our apprenticeship scheme, you’ll get the chance to team up with experienced colleagues to develop practical skills as you work towards becoming qualified in your chosen trade.
Opportunities available are:-
Apprentice Electrician
Qualification: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation
Length of contract: Up to 4 years
As an apprentice electrician, you will work with a qualified electrical engineer on:
- Rewiring schemes, repairs and maintenance in the homes we manage
- Larger electrical projects in schools and other public buildings, as well as specialist electrical work such as solar panels, door entry systems, fire and intruder alarms and data work, as your skills develop
As well as on the job training, you’ll be working towards an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation and will be required to attend college.
You will need GCSE’s in English, Maths and one Science at Grade C and above.
Apprentice Gas Engineer
Qualification: NVQ Level 3 in Gas Fired Wet Central Heating
Length of contract: Up to 4 years
As an apprentice gas engineer, you will work with an experienced and qualified colleague in the homes we manage across Kirklees. Much of the work will involve servicing and repairing heating appliances, as well as fitting full central heating systems.
As well as on the job training, you’ll be working towards an NVQ Level 3 and will be required to attend college.
You will need GCSE’s in English, Maths and one Science at Grade C and above.
Apprentice Plasterer
Qualification: NVQ Level 2/3
Length of contract: 2 years initially, with option to extend for 18 months
As an apprentice plasterer, you will work with experienced colleagues to repair and maintain council homes and public buildings across Kirklees. Tasks will include measuring and calculating requirements, removing old plaster, patching holes, boarding and skimming ceilings, mixing, plaster and so on.
As well as on the job training, you’ll be working towards an NVQ Level 2/3 and will be required to attend college.
You will need GCSE’s in English and Maths at Grade D and above.
Apprentice Plumber/Joiner
Qualification: NVQ Level 2
(There may be the opportunity to extend to Level 3, depending on commitment, ability and service requirements)
Length of contract: 2 years
As an apprentice plumber or joiner, you will work with experienced colleagues to repair and maintain council homes and public buildings across Kirklees. You’ll also undertake in-house training in tiling, brickwork, plastering and painting and decorating.
As well as on the job training, you’ll be working towards an NVQ Level 2 and will be required to attend college.
You will need GCSE’s in English and Maths at Grade D and above.

Eligibility Criteria
Please note, you are only eligible to apply for our roles if:
- You have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years (there are some exceptions to this so applicants will need to be considered on a case by case basis).
- You are not in full-time compulsory education
