Huddersfield Town will host Sheffield Wednesday at the John Smiths Stadium in the SkyBet Championship on Tuesday 8thDecember; 7:45pm KO.
Huddersfield Town
The Terriers currently sit 13th in the SkyBet Championship. They are six points below the play-off places and ten points above the relegation zone.
Town won their last game in the Championship. They were 2-0 victors in a fairly comfortable affair against Queens Park Ranger, at home.
Carlos Corberan has started to make his stamp on the Town style of play, as they continue their run of having the most possession in a game.
The Terriers were without Tommy Elphick (knee) and Richard Stearman (hamstring) in their last outing against QPR.
Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday are currently bottom of the SkyBet Championship on nine points. Even though they are bottom of the table, they would currently be 20th instead of 24th if they did not have their point deduction at the start of the season.
Last time out, Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-1 away to league leaders Norwich City away from home. The Owls have not won any of their previous four games.
The last time Wednesday won a game was on November 3rd, as they defeated one of the promotion favourites AFC Bournemouth.
In the Championship last season, Sheffield Wednesday finished 16th in the Championship and were lucky their point deduction was not put into action last season or they would be playing League One football this campaign.
Their manager, Tony Pulis, is a well-known manager in the English Leagues. He has been at the helm of the club since last month, but he is yet to win a game as manager. In the five league games he has overseen they have drawn three and lost two.
His most notable managerial role was with Stoke City where he was manager first from November 2002 to June 2005 before his most famous stint from June 2006 to May 2013. He managed over 460 games for the club and has a 36.64% win rate in his second stint.
Tony Pulis has managed 11 clubs in his career. His highest win percentage came with Middlesbrough in his last managerial role where he had a 43.75% win rate.
Ones to Watch
BARRY BANNAN
The Scottish midfielder has been a mainstay of the Owls midfield for the last five years and has made over 200 appearances for the club. Bannan has previously played in the Premier League and Europa League and has been an ever-present this season, scoring two goals. He has also pitched in with one assist to his name.
CALLUM PATERSON
Paterson joined Wednesday from Cardiff City in the summer. The forward has played most positions on the pitch during his career, including a defender during his time at Hearts. For the Owls this season he has been used as a striker and a midfielder. He has scored two goals so far this season.
JOSH WINDASS
The attacking midfielder came through Town’s academy before going on to make his professional debut for Accrington Stanley. He signed for the Owls permanently in September 2020 after originally joining on loan from Wigan Athletic. So far this season, he is Wednesday’s top scorer with three goals in all competitions.
Predictions
Huddersfield Town lead the head to head results against the Owls. Town have won on 25 occasions, there have been 14 draws and there have been 21 wins for Wednesday.
However, the Terriers have only beat the Owls once since 2013. Last time the teams met it ended 0-0 at Hillsborough.
Town come into this game in better form having won their last game. Wednesday have not won under a Pulis and have not won for six league games, which has put them back to the foot of the table.
All the signs point towards a Town victory who have been playing some nice football over the past few weeks, while Wednesday have yet to reach any kind of form.
Carlos Corberan has really stamped his style of play into the Terriers squad and it can only get better for them this season.
I only see this game going the Terriers way and I think they will get the straight-forward victory.
Therefore, I predict:
