Welcome to Yorkshire is encouraging people to explore and celebrate Yorkshire with their new year-long ‘Walkshire’ campaign.
With daily walking routes, it’s possible to see iconic locations and stretches of beautiful Yorkshire scenery.
‘Accessible to all’
Welcome to Yorkshire emphasised the accessibility of their ‘Walkshire’ campaign. There will be a range of walks; from walks close to hom to urban and heritage walks.
There will also be a range of themes. January will have a vital focus on mental health. Other themes include child-focused walks in the school holidays and ghost walks at Halloween.
It is hoped that the Walkshire campaign will be a crucial benefit for people’s mental and physical health.
Walkshire Under Covid-19 Restrictions:
Although another national lockdown was announced on 4th January, outdoor exercise will remain.
For instance, exercise and walking are allowed but Welcome to Yorkshire emphasised the importance of following travel restrictions and to stay updated in the latest Covid-19 restrictions.
In addition, they encourage only following ‘Walkshire’ routes that are accessible to you with short travel times and in your immediate vicinity. Those taking part should only walk with those that you’re allowed to under restrictions and keep socially distanced from other walkers. Further advice includes taking hand sanitiser on your adventures.
How to Access Walkshire?
Welcome to Yorkshire are going to release a walk a day across their website and social media. The result will be a ‘library of walks’ collated into a ‘walkshire map’.
‘Simply, Walkshire is for everyone’
On Welcome to Yorkshire’s Website they commented: ‘Simply, Walkshire is for everyone. We’ll show you over the course of the year that Yorkshire has every type of walk that you could possibly imagine in every location the region has to offer…’
‘A final request from us here at Welcome to Yorkshire as you enjoy Walkshire, please make sure you respect local Covid guidelines. Always follow the countryside code and be sure to check the weather before setting out on a walk. Yorkshire is the most beautiful place and let’s make sure we keep it that way.’
If you take part in ‘Walkshire’ you can enjoy the local scenery and walks while making sure to follow Covid-19 restrictions, stay safe and respect the places that you pass through.
