This landmark issue places a spotlight on Windrush Wise Words, KLTV’s powerful new video series, and features a collection of compelling stories that honour the strength, sacrifice, and achievements of Britain’s Caribbean community.

The Windrush Day edition arrives at a poignant moment, as the nation reflects on over 75 years since the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush.

With its rich editorial and wide-ranging features, this issue ensures the voices and experiences of the Windrush community are both celebrated and preserved.

A Platform for ‘Wise Words’

At the heart of this special edition is an in-depth focus on the Windrush Wise Words project. The magazine delves into the lives of three individuals featured in the video series:

• Dr Helen Wells, whose journey from illiteracy to PhD is a testament to courage and transformation. Her ground-breaking research into dementia and trauma places her at the forefront of community health and advocacy.

• Johnny Flowers, an entrepreneurial trailblazer who turned rejection into success by founding Ashbrow Garage in Huddersfield and dedicating his life to uplifting others through education, activism, and mentorship.

• Henderson “Gilly” Gill, a former Rugby League star and cultural icon, whose achievements on and off the pitch continue to inspire. As a proud Windrush descendant, Gill broke down racial barriers in sport while also becoming a community DJ, uniting people through music.

These stories embody the very spirit of the Windrush legacy—resilience, creativity, and the determination to thrive despite adversity.
