Devastation Strikes Carriacou and Petite Martinique as Hurricane Beryl Unleashes Fury

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Hurricane Beryl left a trail of destruction and despair as it landed on the picturesque island of Carriacou in the Caribbean Sea. With maximum winds reaching a staggering 170 mph, this natural disaster has shattered records and shattered lives in its wake.

Reports from Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell paint a grim picture of the aftermath, describing Carriacou and Petite Martinique as being “flattened” within just half an hour of the hurricane’s wrath. Widespread damage, including roof loss and building destruction, has plunged these islands into darkness, both figuratively and literally, as electricity remains cut off and communication lines falter. Despite the chaos, there is a glimmer of hope, as no injuries or loss of life have been reported thus far.

Prime Minister Mitchell has mobilised resources to provide immediate relief, including offering Chinese-built affordable homes for temporary shelter and coordinating efforts to secure essential supplies for recovery.

The urgent need for assistance and support is paramount as the communities of Carriacou and Petite Martinique face the daunting task of rebuilding. Prime Minister Mitchell has initiated efforts to provide immediate relief, including temporary housing solutions and essential supplies such as plywood, tarpaulins, and water.
