After a triumphant return in 2023 following a five-year hiatus, the future of the beloved Huddersfield Carnival once again hangs in the balance.

For 2024, the carnival committee organisers are launching a community-driven fundraising campaign to ensure the vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture can take place in its milestone 40th anniversary year.

The Huddersfield Carnival Management Committee faces a significant challenge. Financial support is very limited, leaving the event entirely reliant on grants, sponsorships, and public donations.

With limited resources and competition for funding, the committee is calling on the community to step up and ensure the carnival’s legacy.

On their fundraising page, the carnival management committee says: “We want Huddersfield to have a carnival this year to celebrate its 40th anniversary year.

“To do this we need at least £100,000 and we need your help to raise funds. If the Community want a carnival we have to fund it ourselves and we need to act quickly.”

The committee is urging everyone who enjoyed last year’s festivities to pledge a donation of just £5. This simple act, if adopted by all attendees, would secure the necessary funds and ensure the carnival’s future.

The campaign’s slogan, “Keep the Vibe Alive, donate five,” speaks directly to the spirit of community support that will make this event possible.

“For the cost of a Greggs meal deal, a Costa coffee, a cinema ticket or a rum and coke you could help fund the carnival.” the statement concluded.
