The African Descendants Forum is delighted to announce that issue four of our groundbreaking magazine ‘As One’ is now live.

In this special edition dedicated to the theme of “Protest,” As One takes a look into the enduring legacy of resistance, resilience, and activism that has shaped the experiences and narratives of people of African descent globally.

Protest has long been a crucial means of voicing dissent and advocating for social change. From defiance against colonialism to the civil rights movements, the history of African diaspora communities is rich with stories of courageous individuals and groups standing against oppression. This edition honours those voices and examines ongoing struggles for justice, equality, and recognition.

The magazine features influential figures who have become symbols of protest, including Toussaint L’Ouverture, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Olive Morris, Dr. Harold Moody, and The Right Reverend John Sentamu. Their actions sparked significant civil rights movements. Additionally, contemporary activists and organisations, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, are highlighted for their ongoing fight against systemic racism and inequality.

Articles span various dimensions of protest, from grassroots activism to the role of art and culture in conveying resistance messages. The magazine underscores how music, literature, and visual arts have been powerful mediums for expressing dissent and inspiring change, reflecting the soul and spirit of the Black experience.
