The Brighouse and Rastrick Band are delighted to announce they have received The Kings Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) 2023.
His Majesty The King approved the KAVS National Assessment Committee’s recommendation that The Brighouse and Rastrick Band should receive the award and added that the Award represents a tremendous achievement, and all connected with the Band should feel immensely proud.
Band President, Stephen Howes, said: “This Award is for all the players, officials and volunteers of the Band that have played a part in its history and traditions since the year it was formed in 1881. The Band remains as a Public Subscription Band who are fiercely proud of their independence. This Award epitomises what The Brighouse and Rastrick Band stands for and we are truly honoured to be recognised in this way.”

Stephen Howes added: “All members of the Band team work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that we continue to achieve musical excellence and provide first class entertainment all whilst ensuring the day-to-day management of our organisation runs smoothly. A tremendous achievement.”
The Award, KAVS, is the highest award for volunteers rather than individuals and has the equivalent status of an MBE for an organisation. The award is given to:
- Groups that are truly outstanding and are making a big difference to their local community.
- Groups where volunteers rather than paid staff are in the driving seat.
- Groups that have the highest standards in everything they do.
