Community rallies to support couple facing heartbreaking loss
A Huddersfield family has been left heartbroken after a fire tore through their home in the early hours of Friday, 5 September, destroying their belongings and claiming the lives of their much-loved pets.
Michelle and Christopher managed to escape the blaze safely, but tragically their dogs and one of their cats did not survive.
The fire, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, has left the couple not only without a home but also grieving the loss of their animals, all of which had been rescued from difficult circumstances.
Remembering Beloved Pets
Courtney, who has organised a fundraiser on behalf of her in-laws, shared on the GoFundMe page about the families’ pets

Alfie, a collie crossed with a springer spaniel, was remembered as “the softest, goofiest, most loving dog” with “a beautiful soul.”

Maisie, a lively cocker spaniel, was “bouncing constantly around the house” and known for her playful attempts at being a guard dog, despite her sweet nature.

Webley, a labrador-springer cross, was “a gentle giant” and still just a puppy. Full of energy but endlessly affectionate, he bonded quickly with the family’s smaller dogs.

Bella, a tabby cat, was described as “beautiful and sweet,” a cat who loved affection but was rarely in one spot for long.
A Family in Need
In addition to arranging cremations and a resting place for their pets, the couple now faces the difficult task of clearing the fire-damaged property and salvaging what little remains.
The kitchen has already been pulled out and now sits in the front garden. Equipment such as skips, masks for smoke damage, and other essentials are urgently needed.
On the fundraising page, Courtney spoke about the tragedy, and expressed deep gratitude for the love and support Michelle and Christopher have shown over the years.
“They did not deserve this,” she said. “I will never be able to thank them enough as a family, so hopefully, I can at least be here and support them through this.”
Community Support
Friends, relatives and neighbours are now being urged to come together in support of the family during this devastating time.
“We absolutely don’t expect everyone to donate a large amount,” Courtney added. “Anything will support the family, however big or small, or even no donation. All we ask is that you please share this.”
