Guided walk highlights the cultural contributions of the African Caribbean community in Huddersfield

Huddersfield residents and visitors are invited to join a special guided walk that celebrates the history, migration and cultural contributions of the town’s African Caribbean community.

Led by Natalie Pinnock-Hamilton and Heather Norris Nicholson, the Huddersfield Caribbean Heritage Trail offers an opportunity to explore key places associated with the rise and influence of this vibrant community, whose roots trace back to the arrival of the Windrush Generation in 1948.

Walk Through History

The linear walk begins at the Harold Wilson Statue in St. George’s Square (HD1 1JB) and concludes at the Antilles Credit Union on Trinity Street (HD1 4DZ).

Along the route, participants will share in over seventy years of stories, memories, and achievements that have shaped the town’s identity.

Natalie and Heather will guide walkers through significant sites, bringing to life personal migration stories and highlighting the impact of African Caribbean individuals and organisations on the cultural and social fabric of Huddersfield.
