Around 20 fearless participants stepped outside their comfort zones to take on the charity challenge

Brave members of the Huddersfield community have taken on the heat at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, walking barefoot across hot coals as part of a fundraising Firewalk Challenge.

Around 20 participants took part in the daring challenge, raising a total of £4,400 to support the theatre’s charity work.

The event gave participants the opportunity to push themselves beyond their comfort zones while helping raise vital funds for the theatre and its work with the local community.

A challenge to overcome fears

The Firewalk was designed to give participants an unforgettable experience while encouraging them to face their fears and take on something outside their usual comfort zone.

One participant explained their motivation for taking part: “I want to help my daughters know that we can do anything that we set our minds to, even if it seems scary or difficult.

“I hope to be able to overcome any fears and give myself and them the confidence to try new things and approach challenging things with a positive mindset”

For another firewalker, the experience was perhaps less intimidating than expected, describing it simply as: “It felt like walking on a warm, dry cloud”

£4,400 raised for Lawrence Batley Theatre

The money raised through the challenge will support the work of Lawrence Batley Theatre, including its activities with artists, young people and the wider local community.

Becky Dash, Chief Executive of Lawrence Batley Theatre, thanked everyone who took part and supported the fundraising effort.

“Thank you to all our fearless firewalkers for taking on this extraordinary challenge and to all who supported them.

“Together we raised a mighty total of £4,400 for Lawrence Batley Theatre. The funds will go towards supporting the work we do with artists, young people and our local community.

“We want everyone in Kirklees to be able to access our space and be inspired by what goes on here. And I couldn’t help but be inspired by this incredible feat taken on by our brave supporters. You are an inspiration to us all, thank you.”

Supporting the Kirklees community

Lawrence Batley Theatre is the only professional theatre in Kirklees and is a registered charity founded by and for its community.

The theatre welcomes more than 80,000 people to its Huddersfield venue each year and delivers activities designed to build confidence and self-esteem, with a particular focus on young people and children.

The funds raised through the Firewalk will help the theatre continue its work supporting artists, young people and the local community, while ensuring people across Kirklees can access and be inspired by the venue.
