Kirklees Council is inviting residents, businesses, and community groups to share their views on daily travel experiences, priorities for transport, and their vision for the future of mobility in the district.

The Kirklees Transport Strategy, the first of its kind, will align with the broader West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan.

The consultation aims to ensure that the strategy reflects the diverse needs of both urban and rural communities across Kirklees.

Public Consultation Open for Eight Weeks

The Kirklees Transport Strategy Consultation is now live online and can be accessed on the Kirklees Council website. In addition, a series of public events will be held where residents can discuss the strategy, share their thoughts, and receive support to complete the consultation. The dates for the consultations are as follows:

Tuesday 11 March

• Huddersfield Train Station
• Mirfield Train Station
• Slaithwaite Train Station

Wednesday 12 March

• Dewsbury Market
• Dewsbury Bus Station
• Sainsbury’s, Dewsbury

Thursday 13 March

• Huddersfield Market
• Holmfirth town centre
• Huddersfield Bus Station

Key Focus Areas of the Strategy

The strategy will address four main priorities:

• Developing a transport network that improves accessibility and creates greater opportunities for residents.
• Enhancing streets and public spaces to ensure safety, well-being, and inclusivity.
• Supporting the council’s ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2038 by reducing emissions and promoting sustainable transport.
• Maximising the impact of local and regional transport investments.

Enhancing Mobility for All

Councillor Crook, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Transport, emphasised the importance of public participation: “As a council, we are committed to delivering a transport strategy that enhances mobility for residents, reduces congestion, and supports our ambition to become Net Zero by 2038.

“We need to hear the views of Kirklees residents in order to develop an effective transport strategy shaped by our communities.”

“It’s imperative that we gain a deeper understanding of how residents feel about their journeys and the impact on their daily lives.

“This will enable us to create a transport network that is accessible, safe, and sustainable.”

“The results of the consultation will help shape a transport strategy designed to improve connectivity between towns and villages, address environmental, social, and economic challenges, and strengthen the local economy, bringing about a generational change.”
