Local Dewsbury Park to Receive £250,000 Playground Upgrade

Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury is set to undergo a £250,000 playground upgrade, bringing new activities for families to the area.

The project has been made possible by £150,000 in funding from Kirklees Council’s Playable Spaces project and an additional £100,000 from the FCC Communities Foundation following a successful grant application.

Exciting New Play Features Planned

Crow Nest Park, one of Kirklees’ key destination parks located in the Dewsbury Moor area within the Dewsbury West ward, already offers a range of play facilities.

These include a multi-age play area with traditional equipment, a multi-use games area (MUGA), and various pieces of outdoor gym equipment.

The planned upgrades will introduce several new features, including:

A climbing frame designed for teenagers.
Sensory and accessible equipment, such as musical chimes and drums.
A toddler multi-climber and roundabout.
A large three-bay swing unit.
A fun run obstacle course.
Improved, accessible ground surfacing.
Refurbished benches and new picnic seating areas.

Construction Timeline and Alternative Play Options

Contractors are scheduled to begin work on Monday 24 March 2025, with the project expected to take approximately 16 weeks to complete.

To ensure that children still have a space to play during construction, the nearby adventure playground at Crow Nest Park will extend its opening hours.

Community Engagement and Support

Councillor Munir Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways, highlighted the importance of the project for local families: “Last year, we engaged with residents to see what improvements they would like to see for the play areas at Crow Nest Park.

“Based on the feedback, we have created an exciting modern design to provide a fun and inclusive play area for the local community and beyond.

“The additional funding from the FCC is a significant investment in Crow Nest Park, which I hope will be enjoyed by many generations of children and young people.”

Cheryl Raynor, FCC Communities Foundation Grant Manager, also expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We’re delighted to support the Council with this project; they have worked hard to show the difference the upgrades will make and enhance this space for local people.
