Huddersfield Town Hall is set to stage Brighouse & Rastrick Band‘s historic 150th Massed Bands concert on the evening of Saturday 26th October.

Both the concert hall and band date back to 1881 and it was also in October when Sir Charles Halle conducted the grand opening concert at Huddersfield Town Hall with Huddersfield Choral Society.

As the largest venue close to their hometown, the Brighouse & Rastrick Band inevitably played in the hall several times in the early days but was first inspired to plan their first ‘Massed Bands’ concert in 1945.

Countless bands, and a few choirs, have performed alongside ‘B & R’ over the decades, with the choice of Guest Band this time being The KNDS Fairey Band from Stockport. Faireys have already appeared on 37 previous occasions, testimony to their popularity, talent, and stability from 1947 onwards.

Guest Conductor for the evening is Dr. David Thornton, now Director of Brass Band Studies at Royal Northern College of Music, and former Solo Euphonium with both bands.

The programme for the evening will dip into programmes from the past but also bring pieces from the present. The remaining tickets are available from Huddersfield Town Hall Box Office and Kirklees outlets.
