This October, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield is inviting the local community to take a look behind the scenes at Russell House.
On the open days on Wednesday 16th and Saturday 19th October, people will have the chance to explore the facilities, such as the sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, cinema, and soft play area.
In addition, for people who’ve visited before they will get to see Forget Me Not’s new garden room which is a space for counselling, peer support, and sibling groups, opened in July this year by Morrison’s CEO Rami Baitiéh.
As well as guided tours of the purpose-built facility, visitors will also be able to meet staff and hear about the difference their support makes to families facing or living with the loss of their child across West Yorkshire. There will also be an opportunity to find out more about volunteering and career opportunities, upcoming events and challenges, and have some tea and cake and buy Forget Me Not branded goods, in good time for Christmas.
Kirsty Goddard, Registered Manager at Forget Me Not, said: “Our open days are something all the team look forward to, because it’s an opportunity to dispel people’s misconceptions about what a children’s hospice is like – what it’s like to stay here and what it’s like to work in. For families who might need our support it’s a chance to come and have a look round and see what a cosy, joyful place of comfort and support our hospice is, a real home-from-home.”
“It’s also a chance for us to thank our many supporters- 90% of our running costs are paid for by the generous donations of local people, groups, schools and businesses getting involved to fundraise, volunteer and support us – we really couldn’t do what we do without you. So come down and say hello! We’re open to all, you’re welcome to bring the kids, friends and family.”
