Parks and greenspaces in Kirklees have been recognised among the country’s best parks, retaining their Green Flag Awards.

An international quality mark for parks and green spaces, the Green Flag Award, has been awarded to:

• Beaumont Park, Crosland Moor
• Greenhead Park, Huddersfield
• Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury
• Wilton Park, Batley
• Almondbury Hill Fort – Castle Hill, Huddersfield
• Oakwell Hall Country Park, Birstall

This international award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Parks and Greenspaces Team along with support from volunteers and friends of parks groups ensuring residents and visitors alike can enjoy the spaces.

Oakwell Hall Country Park, in addition to retaining its Green Flag Award, has also been awarded Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the sixth year. This accreditation, supported by Historic England, is awarded for the management and promotion of historic features.

Leader of Kirklees Council, Councillor Carole Pattison said to Kirklees Together: “I’m delighted our parks and greenspaces have retained their Green Flags. These awards formally recognise the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers who maintain these parks to standards worthy of these awards.”

“Parks and greenspaces play an important part in health and wellbeing of our residents, as well providing homes for wildlife, and plants, flowers and trees. We hope the people of Kirklees continue to enjoy these spaces and ask everyone to help look after and respect them.”
