This December, The Kirkwood will again host their annual Light Up a Life event, which celebrates unity and remembrance. This event will occur at The Kirkwood Gardens in Dalton on Saturday 7th December and Sunday 8th December, with an additional service at Longcauseway Church, Dewsbury on Saturday 7th December at 11 am. The events at Dalton will begin at 5 pm on both days.
In the weeks leading up to December, The Kirkwood will launch this year’s Light Up a Life campaign, offering multiple opportunities to participate. Whether people wish to attend an event in person, join online, or make a personal dedication to a loved one, The Kirkwood encourages people to take part and commemorate the lives of those who are dear to them.
The event offers a space for reflection, with each light on the tree symbolising the life of someone special.
These gatherings will feature music, readings, and special moments for reflection, culminating in the lighting of the tree. After the services, the gardens will remain illuminated, offering a place for quiet reflection throughout the festive period.
For those people unable to attend in person, they can make a dedication online, where they can leave a personal message and upload a photo of a loved one.
There will also be a live stream of the Light Up a Life event on Sunday 8th December. Further details, including the time, will be announced soon.

On the Light Up A Life campaign, Events Manager Rachael Savage said: “Light up a Life is a beautiful opportunity to come together as a community, to remember and celebrate the lives of those we love. Whether by attending in person, watching online, or making a heartfelt dedication, this special event allows us to honour the memories of those who have touched our lives. Every light on the tree shines as a symbol of love and remembrance, uniting us all in shared moments of reflection. Join us this December to celebrate unity, remembrance, and the strength of a community that supports one another.”
