The Democracy teams at Kirklees Council are encouraging residents to register to vote before the Local Elections that are scheduled to take place in May.

310,887 people in Kirklees are registered to vote in the Local Elections on Thursday 2nd May.

The Democracy teams are asking residents to be registered to vote by the deadline – midnight on Tuesday 16th April. If people need to apply for a postal vote or proxy, or if anyone needs more information on what’s happening when all the key election deadlines are available on the council website.

When it comes time to vote in the Local Elections, it is important that people don’t forget their photo ID.

The following can be used as examples of photo IDs:

• a passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state, or a Commonwealth country
• a driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an EEA state
• a biometric immigration document
• a Blue Badge
• a national identity card issued by an EEA state
• an Older Person’s Bus Pass
• a Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
