Dalton Bank Road in Huddersfield is to remain closed for a significant amount of time, following a landslip that occurred in January.

Since closing the road in January, Kirklees Council has been monitoring it with ground investigations having taken place in March, showing continued movement in the landslip, posing a serious threat of danger to all road users.

In the interest of public safety, Kirklees Council has installed physical barriers and road signage to prevent vehicles from accessing the area and a diversion route is in place.

Although Dalton Bank Road remains closed to through traffic, residents can access their homes from Nettleton Road and Bog Green Lane.

Under no circumstances should any of the signs or guarding be moved to allow vehicle access.

A Kirklees Council spokesperson said to Kirklees Together: “We have received a number of reports of motorists interfering with the traffic management system, which is both concerning and illegal. Anyone who continues to disregard the road closure is putting themselves and others in danger. Not only are these actions dangerous, but they are also causing further damage and potentially delaying progress on the repairs.  Anyone found to be interfering with the road closure could face enforcement action from the police.”

“We will continue to keep residents and business owners up to date with progress as the programme is developed and further testing is carried out.”

“We would like to thank residents and business owners in the area for their patience and understanding during these essential works and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Kirklees Council’s Cleansing Team has been notified about the situation and has confirmed that council-operated refuse collections will continue as normal for the duration of the road closure.
