This summer, The Kirkwood are inviting people to partake in The Kirkwood 74 Summer Challenge, where people can get involved in any way they like as long as it involves the number 74. This could range from walking 74 miles, drinking 74 cups of tea, doing 74 push ups, or stacking 74 jenga bricks on top of each other.
Keith and Helen are long-term volunteers with The Kirkwood, and last year Keith was doing a sponsored walk for The Kirkwood which was interrupted when Helen had a heart attack.
She had a triple bypass and since then they have decided to celebrate her recovery by doing a joint long-distance fundraising walk for The Kirkwood. They have chosen the Kirklees Way, a 74-miles trek around Kirklees.
The duo are currently training and exploring the walk in readiness for their event, which begins at The Boshaw Trout, Hade Edge at 8 am on Saturday 14th September, and ends on Sunday 22nd September with a celebration in the afternoon at TenFourteen in Holmfirth for anyone from Kirklees who has been involved in the Summer Challenge campaign.
The aim of The Kirkwood 74 Summer Challenge is to help raise funds for The Kirkwood charity which supports life in Kirklees with anyone who is living with a life-limiting illness, and also to raise awareness of the services they provide.
