Major improvements to parking, pedestrian access, cycling facilities and public spaces have been completed in Holmfirth following a £10 million transport scheme.
A £10 million transformation of Holmfirth town centre has been completed, bringing improvements to accessibility, road safety, connectivity and parking.
The scheme, funded through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transforming Cities Fund, has delivered a range of improvements designed to make the town centre easier and safer to navigate for residents, businesses and visitors.
Improved parking and pedestrian access
One of the key areas to benefit is the Huddersfield Road Car Park, opposite Holmfirth Library.
The car park now features additional parking spaces, along with disabled parking bays that are easier to access.
Pedestrian access between Huddersfield Road and Hollowgate has also been re-established, improving connectivity through the town centre and making it easier for visitors to reach local businesses.
The project has also delivered secure cycle facilities, new pedestrian links and improvements to public spaces.

More accessible and safer town centre
Further work has been carried out on infrastructure and the bridge over the River Holme, alongside improvements to boundary walls and access to the river.
New paving and kerbing have been installed, as well as tactile paving designed to assist people with visual impairments.
Drainage and pedestrian crossings have also been upgraded as part of efforts to create a safer and more accessible environment for people visiting and living in Holmfirth.
Councillor John Hardie, Kirklees Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Highways, Transport, said: “I am pleased to see these works are finally complete. We recognise the scheme has taken longer than expected and would like to thank residents, businesses and visitors for their patience throughout the programme.
“Holmfirth is a thriving town with a strong independent business community, and we hope these improvements will support the town for many years to come, making it easier for people to access everything it has to offer.”
The Transforming Cities Fund is a capital grant programme aimed at supporting investment in public and sustainable transport infrastructure.
The programme is designed to improve connectivity and help create places that are easier and safer to access.
Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival returns
The completion of the scheme comes as Holmfirth prepares to welcome thousands of visitors for its annual Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September.
The popular event will bring a food market featuring flavours from around the world, craft drinks, live music and entertainment to the town.
Local businesses will also be taking part across the town centre, giving visitors the opportunity to explore Holmfirth while enjoying the festival.
More information about the event is available from the Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival website.
