This year’s Huddersfield Literature Festival will host a performance from Annapurna Indian Dance, a Halifax-based dance company.
Annapurna Indian Dance will perform Indian Tales of Love and Wisdom – a rich cultural evening of Indian dance, music and stories.
You can catch the event at the end of this month on Thursday 31 March at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.
Indrani Datta and Sarvani Yadavalli will explore themes of nature, love and universality through the works of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and Indian classical mythology.
Annapurna Indian Dance
Annapurna Indian Dance was founded by artistic director Shantha Rao and is based in Halifax. The company’s vision was to connect communities through dance and sharing stories.
The dance company draws its main dance form from a style called Bharata Natyam. It is an ancient and classical style of dance that is renowned for its rhythmic footwork and telling stories using stylised facial expressions and intricate hand gestures.
“Truly breathtaking”
Festival Director Michelle Hodgson said: “We are thrilled to have the incredible Annapurna Indian dancers perform at this year’s festival – their performances are truly breathtaking and artistic director Shantha Rao has created a performance that perfectly blends literature and music – it really is an event not to be missed.”
The event is also supported and sponsored by Kirklees Year of Music 2023. You can book your tickets for Indian Tales of Love and Wisdom on the Huddersfield Literature Festival website.
