Free music festival promises award-winning artists, international talent and unforgettable performances this September

One of West Yorkshire’s most anticipated live music events is set to return this September as Bluesbury makes its highly anticipated comeback.

Taking place from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September at the West Riding Beerhouse, the three-day festival will once again bring together some of the biggest names in British blues alongside exciting emerging artists and international performers.

Following two hugely successful years that attracted packed audiences, organisers are promising the biggest event yet.

Organised by acclaimed blues singer Pat Fulgoni in association with the Huddersfield Blues Club, the festival offers a packed programme of live music across three days, with something for blues fans of every generation.

Friday opens with award-winning blues talent

The festival begins on Friday 11 September (6.00 pm – 10.30 pm) with an impressive line-up featuring four-time UK Blues Award winner Mississippi MacDonald, 2026 UK Blues Award Emerging Artist winners The Whisky Flowers, and Canadian blues guitarist Gary Cain.

MacDonald has become one of the UK’s most celebrated contemporary blues artists, earning widespread acclaim for albums including Heavy State Loving Blues and I Got What You Need.

Inducted into the UK Blues Hall of Fame in 2026, he has performed alongside some of the biggest names in blues and soul and recently recorded with the legendary Hi Rhythm in Memphis.

Joining him are The Whisky Flowers, fresh from winning the 2026 UK Blues Award for Emerging Artist of the Year.

Known for blending blues, Americana, folk and rock, the band have built a growing reputation for powerful live performances and emotionally charged songwriting.

Completing Friday’s bill is Canadian guitarist Gary Cain, whose musicianship has earned international praise.

Saturday combines outstanding music with fundraising

Saturday’s programme, running from 2.00 pm until 10.30 pm, is dedicated to the Swan Song Project, a charity supporting people approaching the end of life by helping them write and record original songs for their loved ones.

The day features performances from Burning Rope, Franny Eubank & His Blues Band, John Montana Trio, Ben Buddy Slack, and the Ugly Mug Jug Band.

Burning Rope emerged following the tragic death of Catfish frontman Matt Long in 2024, with former band members continuing his musical legacy.

Their debut album reached number one in the IBBA UK Blues Playlist Chart and earned nominations for both Album of the Year and Band of the Year at the UK Blues Awards.

Manchester blues favourite Franny Eubank & His Blues Band also joins the line-up.

The John Montana Trio will bring their trademark blend of blues, rock, funk and soul, while Ben Buddy Slack performs in support of the Swan Song Project charity.

Rounding off the day are the ever-entertaining Ugly Mug Jug Band, whose homemade instruments and early American blues influences have made them a favourite on the live circuit.

Sunday’s Blues Train brings the festival home

The festival concludes on Sunday 13 September (2.00 pm – 8.00 pm) with the popular Sunday Blues Train, featuring The Milk Men, Huddersfield Blues Club All Stars, and John Carroll.

One of Britain’s most exciting rhythm and blues bands, The Milk Men have received eleven UK Blues Award nominations and are renowned for their high-energy live performances.

Festival favourites Huddersfield Blues Club All Stars return with a stellar line-up featuring James O’Hara, Pat Fulgoni, Alex Eden, Marc Layton Bennett, James Dash and jazz legend Rod Mason on saxophone.

The weekend closes with acclaimed acoustic blues performer John Carroll, whose performances draw inspiration from blues legends including Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Big Bill Broonzy.

Free festival for music lovers

With award-winning artists, charity fundraising, international musicians and three days of free live entertainment, Bluesbury has established itself as one of Yorkshire’s standout blues festivals.

Hosted in the unique surroundings of Platform 3 at Dewsbury Railway Station’s West Riding Beerhouse, organisers are expecting another bumper turnout as blues fans from across the region gather to celebrate live music in one of Yorkshire’s most distinctive venues.
