Roadworks begin on major regeneration scheme, but traders insist it is business as usual

Shops, pubs, cafés, restaurants, takeaways and businesses across Brighouse have stressed that the town is still very much open for business as major construction works begin in the town centre.

From today (Monday 12 January), and for the next 18 months, a programme of road closures, changes to traffic flow and the suspension of some on-street parking spaces will be in place as part of the Brighouse Town Deal project.

‘Open for business’ message from traders

Brighouse BID, which represents town centre businesses, has launched a new campaign encouraging residents and visitors to continue supporting local shops and venues throughout the works.

The organisation says the aim is to ensure Brighouse town centre continues to thrive despite the inevitable disruption caused by the regeneration scheme.

Campaign to support shoppers and visitors

A series of initiatives has been introduced to help customers continue to access the town centre.

These include advertising to reinforce the message that it is business as usual, leaflets and flyers offering guidance on how to reach shops and venues, and updated information on visitbrighouse.co.uk to help people find alternative parking during the roadworks.

Determined to support the town

Helen Holdsworth, Brighouse BID project manager, said: “There’s no getting away from the fact that the major works in Brighouse town centre will cause disruption, but we are determined to do all we can to support our shops, venues and businesses over the next 18 months and encourage people to continue to visit, shop and enjoy our town.

“Our message to residents and visitors from across Calderdale and beyond is that we are open for business.

“We’ll do all we can to help you reach where you want to be in the town centre, find somewhere to park and discover our unrivalled range of shops, independents, food, drink and so much more.

“Please keep visiting, please keep shopping, and we’ll keep welcoming you to a town that will look a bit different for a while, but it’s still the same Brighouse you know and love.”

Town centre leaders hope the campaign will reassure shoppers that, while the town may look different during the works, Brighouse remains open, accessible and ready to welcome visitors throughout the regeneration period.
