World-renowned brass ensemble to perform in hometown celebration of musical heritage

One of the world’s most celebrated brass bands is set to return to its roots this summer, as the Brighouse & Rastrick Band prepares to take to the stage in its hometown for a highly anticipated annual concert.

Widely regarded as one of the finest brass bands globally and the current British Open Champions, the band has long been synonymous with musical excellence.

For generations, it has carried the name of Brighouse onto the international stage, earning acclaim through performances in concert halls, competitions, and broadcasts worldwide.

Now, local audiences will have the opportunity to experience that firsthand when the band performs at Central Methodist Church on Saturday, 13 June 2026 at 7.15 pm.

A proud musical legacy

From its global success with The Floral Dance to its continued presence on championship stages, the Brighouse & Rastrick Band has become a defining symbol of the town’s cultural identity.

Few communities can claim such a distinguished musical ambassador, with the band widely credited for promoting Brighouse on a global scale while maintaining deep roots within the local community.

An evening of musical variety

Under the direction of the highly respected Dr David Thornton, the Summer Concert promises a diverse and engaging programme designed to appeal to a wide audience.

The evening will feature music by J.S. Bach, Verdi, Gordon Langford, Stevie Wonder, and Peter Graham, blending classical repertoire with popular favourites. Organisers say audiences can expect a performance combining technical brilliance with warmth, humour, and entertainment.

The concert will also showcase solo performances from three of the band’s accomplished musicians:

• Joe Heartfield (Trombone)
• Paul Haigh (Baritone)
• Angus Ritchie (Euphonium)

From powerful overtures and traditional marches to lighter pieces and well-known classics, the programme reflects the versatility that has earned the band international admiration. Audiences will also be hoping for a rendition of the band’s iconic signature piece, The Floral Dance.
