West Yorkshire’s business community called on to help redefine their Chamber for a changing economy

As the business world undergoes rapid change, MY Chamber is evolving, and it wants the voices of West Yorkshire’s businesses at the heart of that transformation.

Formerly known as the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, the newly rebranded MY Chamber is inviting members and the wider business community to help shape its next chapter.

From microbusinesses to major employers, all are being asked: What should your Chamber stand for now?

A Time of Transition — and Opportunity

In recent months, the organisation has undergone major shifts. Managing Director Martin Hathaway has stepped down after over a decade of service.

Chairperson Tim Welton will also depart following the completion of his term after nearly nine years.

At the same time, MY Chamber is on the lookout for fresh leadership, seeking new board members, including a future Chairperson, who can bring energy, insight and bold ideas to its next phase.

Tim Welton commented: “Many of our members are micro or small businesses. Sometimes, just one to three people who may not directly employ, but whose role in larger projects and collaboration is crucial to regional growth.

“We also know that medium and larger employers across the region are facing their own challenges from innovation and skills to sustainability and supply chains.

“We want MY Chamber to reflect the real needs of the businesses we serve, and that starts with listening.”

Listening to Local Voices, Not National Scripts

One of the most significant changes is MY Chamber’s decision to step away from the national British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) network.

This move signals a strategic shift, placing greater emphasis on regional priorities, deeper local collaboration, and genuine community impact.

Despite stepping away from the national umbrella, MY Chamber’s momentum is growing.

Over 400 businesses are already active members, with 37 new companies joining in recent months.

The Chamber continues to work closely with local and regional partners, including the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the Department for Business and Trade, and councils across Calderdale, Kirklees, and Wakefield.

Together, they are shaping a future around key focus areas like:

• The green economy

• Advanced manufacturing

• Emerging technologies

• Skills development

• MY Network and MY Export initiatives

Summer Social Offers a Chance to Share, Connect — and Compete!

To bring its growing community together, MY Chamber is hosting a Summer Social on Friday 1 August, from 1pm to 4pm at Bradley Wood Activity Centre, Brighouse.

The event promises more than just networking: with member stands, interactive games, and activities in the pipeline, such as axe throwing and rope challenges, it’s designed to foster connection in a relaxed, fun setting.
