Family-friendly event promises authentic food, live music and summer celebrations ahead of Dewsbury Arcade’s grand opening

Dewsbury town centre is set to come alive with the sights, sounds and flavours of the Caribbean later this month as a vibrant street food festival takes over The Arcade Pop-Up in the Princess of Wales Precinct.

Taking place on Saturday 27 June from 11 am to 3 pm, the free event will offer residents and visitors the chance to enjoy authentic Caribbean cuisine, refreshing drinks and fruity mocktails, all served up alongside feel-good island music and family entertainment.

The festival forms part of a wider programme of community events leading up to the highly anticipated opening of the restored Dewsbury Arcade in September.

Showcasing Future Arcade Businesses

The event is being co-hosted by The Arcade team and Junior, one of the new independent business owners preparing to move into the historic building when it officially opens its doors later this year.

Festival-goers will have the opportunity to meet one of the future faces of the Arcade while getting a flavour of the diverse and independent businesses that will help shape its future.

Food, Music and Community Spirit

Visitors can expect a celebration of Caribbean culture, with a range of independent food traders serving authentic street food, alongside refreshing beverages and tropical-inspired mocktails.

The atmosphere will be enhanced by a soundtrack of Caribbean music throughout the day, while families can enjoy entertainment and browse market stalls featuring local makers, artists and craft businesses.

Jenny Holden-Stokes, Arcade Manager, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to co-host this event with Junior and give the community a real taste of what’s to come when the Arcade officially opens its doors in September.

“Events like this are vital for our town centre, not only do they create a fun, vibrant day out for families, but they also champion the local, independent entrepreneurs who will form the heart of our new Arcade.”

Final Stall Opportunities Available

Organisers are also encouraging local food vendors and craft traders to get involved, with a limited number of stall spaces still available.

The Caribbean Street Food Festival is free to attend and does not require advance booking.
