The Arcade Pop-Up at the Princess of Wales shopping centre in Dewsbury is hosting a vibrant celebration of the area’s rich textile heritage and skills, as part of the WOVEN in Kirklees festival.
Running from 2nd to 26th June, the exhibition features the work of talented textile artists and community groups, bringing to life the creativity and stories woven into Dewsbury’s past and present.

Shoddy Exhibition
Browse the history of Shoddy and its significance to the development of Dewsbury as an international textile centre in the 1850s, through to modern innovation with the successors of Shoddy, iinouiio, who continue the tradition of upcycling woollen fibres in Mirfield.
The exhibition is hosted by The Arcade Group and partnered with the Hillstone Fibre Arts exhibition, using iinouiio offcuts and waste to produce beautiful textile art.
This event is part of the WOVEN community programme, and the Shoddy Exhibition is on loan to The Dewsbury Arcade Group.

Hillstone Fibre Arts Exhibition
Hillstone Fibre Arts (HFA) has collaborated with iinouiio, a textile waste company now based in Birkby, Huddersfield, to produce textile artwork using their waste – including zips, buttons, labels, pockets, shredded wool and new yarns.
In addition to their textile artworks, HFA are working in partnership with the Shoddy Exhibition to chart the history of Dewsbury’s Shoddy industry, including iinouiio founder Dr John Parkinson’s family connection to the last Shoddy Mill in Batley Carr.
HFA have also created artwork using waste fabric and samples of 100% pure wool from a second mill, Bower Roebuck in New Mill, Huddersfield.
Their work will be available for sale, alongside cards, fabric offcuts, brooches and books. Visitors can also join drop-in workshops and demonstrations throughout the exhibition. Find out more here.
The Rosewood Centre – Creative Connections Exhibition
The Rosewood Centre, based at Dewsbury Hospital, supports individuals living with a cancer diagnosis or life-limiting conditions through holistic wellbeing sessions.
This exhibition features a beautiful collection of crafts created by people who attend these sessions, showcasing the creativity and resilience of those facing challenging circumstances
Live Music – Sonic Threads
Monday 2nd June, 17.00 – 18.00
Visitors can enjoy a captivating performance at The Arcade Pop-Up by Sonic Threads, an innovative musical duo featuring internationally-renowned classical Indian vocalist Supriya Nagarajan and classically-trained harpist Lucy Nolan.
They will be joined by Leeds-based artist Rohith Sakthy, combining rag-inspired music, free improvisation and electronics to create a unique soundscape.
Handmade Crafts – Dewsbury Creatives: Meet the Maker
Monday 2nd June, 13.00 – 16.30
Visitors are invited to meet Patrycja and browse the beautiful handmade textile and fibre craft items created by local makers – from crochet gifts and handmade tote bags to needle-felted decorations and gilded lace jewellery.
The pop-up shop will remain open for browsing until 19.00 on the day.
Everyone is encouraged to be part of the change they want to see in Dewsbury.
