November marks Interfaith Week across the UK, and Kirklees is embracing the spirit with a variety of events that invite everyone, regardless of religious beliefs, to participate.

Running from Sunday, November 10th to Sunday, November 17th, Interfaith Week celebrates the positive contributions of different faiths to our community and society.

It also serves as an opportunity to learn about religious diversity and understand various beliefs, cultures, and traditions.

What’s Happening in Kirklees?

A host of events in Kirklees, organised by local community groups, faith organizations, and the council, will provide opportunities for people to come together, share experiences, and foster mutual respect. Here is an outline of the key events:

Tuesday, November 12th

• Roses for Peace: Share a message of peace and friendship at St George’s Square, Huddersfield. For more details or to join, email NK Interfaith at nkinterfaith@gmail.com.

Saturday, November 16th

• Nurturing Respect and Tolerance: A free open meeting at Whitley Lower Community Centre from 10 am – 4 pm, led by Dr Chris Hewer, a Christian theologian respected by local Muslims for his understanding of Islam. Attendees are invited to share personal testimonies and engage in discussions. Reserve a free halal buffet lunch by contacting nkinterfaith@gmail.com.

Schools Interfaith Events

• ‘Autumn Festivals’: An online event for primary pupils on Thursday, November 21st. This session offers an opportunity to learn about autumn festivals and engage in a Q&A with local faith and belief community members.
• Two-faith Visit: Explore a church and mosque in Dewsbury, located a short walk from the town centre.

November 18-24

• North Kirklees Interfaith at Kirklees College: The North Kirklees Interfaith group will visit the Springfield and Pioneer sites of Kirklees College in Dewsbury to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by students whose first language is not English. They will explore connections between different faiths and understand various notions of faith.
