Northorpe Hall hosts community drop-in to mark World Mental Health Day
Families in Mirfield are being invited to take a moment for coffee, conversation and connection this World Mental Health Day (Friday 10th October).
Northorpe Hall Child + Family Trust will be opening the doors of its new Home Education Hub from 10 am to 12 pm, welcoming parents, carers and children to its relaxed Northorpe Coffee Morning.
The event is designed to encourage open conversations about mental health and the power of sharing experiences to reduce isolation and build lasting support networks.
Launching new support for young people
The coffee morning coincides with the launch of the Me + My Normal Report, highlighting Northorpe Hall’s newest service for neurodivergent young people.
The report sheds light on the challenges faced by families following a neurodevelopmental diagnosis.
Parents described feelings of isolation and uncertainty, as well as frustration at existing services, which often prioritise assessments and reports over ongoing guidance and emotional support.
Me + My Normal is aimed at 11–17-year-olds, helping them feel more comfortable with who they are, develop friendships and grow in confidence.
The event offers families the chance to meet the team behind the service, learn more about available support, and discuss the report’s findings.
A safe space for families
Children will also be catered for, with activities available to keep them entertained while parents enjoy a chat over a hot drink.
Dipika Khausal, CEO of Northorpe Hall Child + Family Trust, said: “Conversations can be the starting point for change. Parents often tell us how lonely and overwhelming it can feel when you don’t know where to turn.
“Sitting down with a cuppa and talking openly can make people feel less alone and more supported. That’s what Northorpe Coffee Morning is about – creating a safe, welcoming space for families to connect with us and each other.”
Building on 60 years of support
With more than six decades of supporting young people and families across West Yorkshire, Northorpe Hall hopes the event will encourage parents and carers to seek support earlier and to see the benefits of early intervention and affirmation.
