This year’s Community Archives and Heritage Groups (CAHG) Conference is being held at University College London on Wednesday 19th July.
The conference is expected to last from 11:00 to 15:30 BST, with registration and coffee at 10:30.
Community Archives: Achievements and Making Success of Engagements with Heritage
The annual CAHG Conference is on 19th July, exploring and celebrating community heritage by catching up with the achievements of some of the previous award winners.
Throughout this annual celebration of community archives and heritage, there will be lots of opportunities to learn from past and current projects, network with fellow practitioners, and engage in thought-provoking discussions.
This year the conference will be returning to University College London, Department of Information Studies for the conference venue. This will be an in-person event only.
The event is free to attend. The event will include refreshments, and provide a sandwich lunch.
The Conference’s lineup of speakers include:
- Keynote Address: Selina Papa, Head of Engagement, England, London & South (Director) at National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- Previous Award Winner: Black Country Visual Arts, 2017 winner of the ‘Best New Group’ category for its Apna, Heritage Archive.
- Previous Award Winner: Qisetna: Talking Syria, 2017 winner of the ‘Most Innovative’ category and overall winner, Community Archive and Heritage Group of the Year.
- Previous Award Winner: Magic Torch Comics CIC, 2016 winner of the ‘Innovation’ category.
Practical Session
DIGITAL ARCHIVING – This short practical session will focus on digital preservation. The session will look at what steps can be taken to ensure the long-term storage and usability of the digital files in archive collections.
The session will be led by Jack Latimer from www.communitysites.co.uk. Jack is keen to hear from groups who have got to grips with digital preservation (e.g. having multiple back-ups, migrating old file formats) and are willing to share their advice with others. The winners of the 2023 CAHG Awards will also be revealed.
