Northfield Hall recently hosted a Youth Network Meeting, drawing together an array of community organisations dedicated to supporting at-risk youth in the Ashbrow Ward.
Among the attendees were representatives from Local Services 2 You, Ultimate Sport, APT, IMPACT, Team Kickstart, Temple Well-Being, Kirklees Local Television, and the Dreamcatchers Foundation.
The meeting highlighted the significant role of youth sporting initiatives in engaging young people in positive, constructive activities.
Attendees underscored the benefits of sports such as football, which not only promote physical health and skill development but also foster teamwork, discipline, and a sense of community.
Building Strong Relationships
A major focus was the importance of building strong relationships with parents to enhance the effectiveness of support programs for at-risk youth.
Participants stressed that involving parents in intervention strategies creates a more holistic support system for young individuals.
Additionally, the provision of essential resources, such as food and basic necessities, to families in need was highlighted as a vital step in addressing the socio-economic challenges that impact youth in the community.
Improving Mental Health
The discussion on mental health and well-being underscored the critical need to address the emotional and psychological needs of at-risk youth.
Exposure to violence, social isolation, and economic hardships can significantly affect young individuals’ mental health.
Emphasising the need for accessible, stigma-free mental health support services, participants recognised the value of providing counselling, therapy, and mental health education.
Digital Skills
Participants discussed the transformative potential of digital skills development for at-risk youth.
Equipping young individuals with digital skills enhances their employability and educational prospects and empowers them to navigate the digital landscape confidently and creatively.
Training in areas such as digital media can open doors to various career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Collaboration
The meeting also identified numerous opportunities for collaboration among organisations, including joint events, resource sharing, and coordinated outreach efforts to reach more young people in need.
The Youth Network Meeting served as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective action, aiming to create a safer, more inclusive community for all young residents in the Ashbrow ward.
By working together and leveraging each other’s strengths, these community organisations are committed to creating a supportive environment where at-risk youth can thrive, succeed, and contribute positively to their community.
