The council knows that the decisions they make are not always popular, but there is no getting away from the fact that they have to be made. So they are giving local people the chance to see how they would do it by using a special budget simulator. Anyone can have a go.
The simulator shows all the areas that the council spends money in and gives people the chance to say if they would spend more or less, it also explains what the impact of any budget change might be.
When someone has decided on their final budget they can submit it to the council. All submitted budgets will be considered as part of the decision making process.
Cllr Graham Turner, Cabinet member for resources said: “The budget simulator gives people an idea of the scale of financial challenge we face and how difficult it is to come up with a budget, but more than that, it is an essential tool to help us learn what really matters to the people of Kirklees.
“By using the simulator residents can also gain a better understanding of the full range of service we deliver and the cost involved in delivering them.
“We don’t take our role in deciding what to spend money on lightly and this is just one way that people can share their thoughts, I would encourage everyone to give it a go.”
