Kirklees Council today (17 May), have officially launched a new research study on the housing needs of Older people from Ethnic Minorities.
Across the UK the population is ageing, and communities in Kirklees have more ethnic diversity than those in similar areas.
Goals of the Study
The council says the aim of the study is to make sure that they have the necessary evidence to plan for homes that meet the needs of all communities.
To that end, the council wants to hear from anyone 45 years or older and from an ethnic minority background living in Kirklees, via an online survey
Plans are in place to create more homes in the borough and the study will influence new developments like those at Dewsbury Riverside and Bradley Park, Huddersfield to reflect the diverse needs of the communities.
People’s input will help influence the planning and delivery of a range of housing and support options, based on what is requested.
In particular, the council wants to hear from people of South Asian and African or African Caribbean heritage, which make up significant communities in the district.
Kirklees residents are encouraged to take part, whether they are living in their own home, privately renting, living with family members, in a council property, a housing association property or anywhere else.
As a thank you for taking part, the council also have four £50 shopping vouchers to give away.
The work is being carried out by the independent researchers, the Housing Learning and Improvement Network (Housing LIN).

The survey itself will take around 15 minutes to fill in.
There are three versions available online, in English, Gujarati, and Urdu.
