Workshops, exhibitions, and art installations will take over the Creative Piazza and University campus as the community comes together to explore creativity, sustainability, and climate awareness.

Huddersfield will mark Climate Action Day on Saturday 25 October with a day-long celebration of creativity and community action.

Visitors can enjoy an exciting programme of drop-in workshops, exhibitions, and art experiences across the Creative Piazza and University of Huddersfield campus, all responding to the global call for environmental awareness.

From hands-on art making to interactive exhibitions, the day offers something for all ages — and all activities are free to attend.

Creative Workshops Inspire Climate Conversations

The West Yorkshire Print Workshop will invite participants to create protest postcards and contribute to a collaborative poster wall in its Letterpress for Climate Action workshop at the organisation’s Huddersfield site.

Visitors can also explore the group’s current exhibitions, Landmarks and JULIE TURNER: Succulent.

At Thread Republic, participants can take part in Glow Up: Reflective Embroidery, a creative sewing session using reflective and high-visibility materials to craft badges and embellishments inspired by climate activism and sustainability.

Meanwhile, the Children’s Art School will host TOGETHER – An Immersive Climate Play Experience at MakerWorld Gallery, offering playful and engaging activities for young children and families.

The organisation will also run a Protest Placard workshop inspired by the exhibition’s themes of unity and environmental responsibility.

All workshops will run from 11 am to 3 pm, with materials provided and no booking required.

Climate Art and Reflection in Public Spaces

Visitors are also encouraged to explore Climate Ecologies: Responses to the Panicocene on its final day, alongside the Cultures of Climate Mural at Hepworth Park (between the Barbara Hepworth Building and Sovereign Design House).

The mural features interactive QR codes that invite participants to share reflections and creative responses online using #hudclimatemural, forming part of a wider digital mural project celebrating community responses to climate change.

Artist Walkthrough and Closing Reception

In the lead-up to Climate Action Day, the University of Huddersfield’s School of Arts and Humanities will host an Artist Walkthrough and Drinks Reception on Thursday 23 October at the Sovereign Design House.

Dr Elena Giacomelli, who developed the concept of the Panicocene, will be joined by exhibiting artists for an in-depth discussion about the work featured in Climate Ecologies: Responses to the Panicocene.

The walkthrough will take place from 4 pm to 5 pm, followed by a drinks reception from 5 pm to 7 pm, celebrating the final days of this thought-provoking exhibition.
