Repair works on Dalton Bank Road in Huddersfield are progressing following a landslip last year.

Due to the complex nature of the damage and its location, Kirklees Council’s Highways team has worked closely with geotechnical specialists to investigate the cause and develop a lasting solution.

Major Engineering Works in Progress

The planned repairs began in February 2025 and are expected to take around ten weeks to complete.

During this period, the road will remain closed to vehicles as engineers construct a gravity burr wall, designed to stabilise the highway and prevent future issues at the landslip site.

Council Pledges Long-Term Safety for Road Users

Speaking on the works, Councillor Munir Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways, said: “Our highways engineers, working with specialist contractors, have developed a viable, safe and long-term solution that will allow Dalton Bank Road to fully reopen in spring.

“We would like to thank residents and business owners in the area for their patience and understanding during the extended road closure.

“We apologise for any further inconvenience while these essential repairs take place.”

Access and Alternative Routes

The current vehicle diversion will remain in place until the repairs are completed.

However, pedestrians and cyclists will continue to have access around the site on Dalton Bank Road. Residents will still be able to reach their homes via Nettleton Road and Bog Green Lane.
