Kes is one of the most well regarded films of the 1960’s and has won Two British Academy Film Awards. The story is an adaption of Barnsley-born author Barry Hines’ book, A Kestrel for a Knave, and tells the story of a boy and his friendship with his pet falcon.
Mayor, Cllr Burgess says: “The special showing of Kes in November will celebrate Barry Hines as one of our “Best of Barnsley” and ensure we remember his excellent writing. Barry lived with dementia in his later life, and the showing of Kes will raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity which will go to support others living with dementia.”
