Free community session aims to support those affected by cancer and highlight the importance of early diagnosis and local care services

People affected by cancer in the Dewsbury area — including patients, carers, family members, and friends — are being invited to a health and wellbeing event designed to raise awareness and provide information about cancer care, local services, and community support.

The event, which will also emphasise the importance of early diagnosis and cancer screening, takes place on Wednesday 5 November 2025, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Princess of Wales Precinct in Dewsbury town centre.

Working Together for Better Health Outcomes

The session has been organised through a collaboration between the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance, Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, and Kirklees Council.

It aims to connect residents with health professionals and support networks, offering advice on how to recognise symptoms early, access screening services, and find the right help at the right time.

Representatives from local health and wellbeing organisations will be available throughout the event to share information and answer questions about the wide range of services available to people affected by cancer in the community.

Promoting Awareness and Support

The event is open to all members of the public, not just those directly affected by cancer.

By attending, residents can learn more about how to support loved ones, understand the importance of screening programmes, and discover practical resources available across Kirklees and West Yorkshire.

With a focus on improving health awareness and encouraging open conversations around cancer, the organisers hope the event will help empower people to take charge of their wellbeing and seek help early.
