“Dino Days at the Pit” promises prehistoric fun, fossil finds, and roaring entertainment for all ages

Families across Yorkshire are being invited to take a step back in time this weekend as the National Coal Mining Museum hosts Dino Days at the Pit, a free, dinosaur-themed weekend of activities and performances.

The event takes place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September at the 43-acre museum site, bringing the Jurassic era vividly to life.

Visitors will discover how ancient creatures that once roamed lush forests millions of years ago played a part in shaping the coal seams found beneath the earth today.

A Prehistoric Playground

Throughout the weekend, guests can encounter dinosaurs both big and small, enjoy the spectacular Rock ’n’ Coal Show, and take part in creative dinosaur-themed arts and crafts.

Budding explorers will have the chance to unearth fossils, play dinosaur-inspired crazy golf, and learn fascinating facts from friendly Rangers on site.

Fun with a Fossil Twist

Whether you’re a young palaeontologist in the making or simply curious about the world of dinosaurs, organisers say the event will offer something for everyone.

As the museum notes: “The only thing cooler than dinosaurs is finding them at a coal mine!”
