Step into a world of history, culture, and community engagement as the Huddersfield Seventh-day Adventist Church proudly opens its doors to the public on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This highly anticipated Heritage Open Day promises a captivating journey through time, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the remarkable story of this Protestant Christian denomination and its profound impact in the Huddersfield area.
Nestled within the walls of the cherished church building, which was once a Church of England School, you’ll uncover the fascinating history that spans over half a century. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., immerse yourself in the enthralling tale of the building, tracing its transformation from a school to a place of worship.
But that’s just the beginning. Join from 10 am to 11 am for an enlightening session on the captivating history of the Seventh-day Adventists and their influence in Huddersfield. This global religious movement, born out of the mid-nineteenth-century revival, has left an indelible mark on the spiritual fabric of our community. Come along and discover the unique beliefs, values, and contributions that have shaped the Seventh-day Adventist Church into what it is today.
Throughout the day, there will be various engaging activities for all ages. Younger visitors will delight in the Children’s Craft Sessions from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., where their imaginations can soar as they create beautiful crafts. Meanwhile, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., adults can take advantage of the Health Checks, which offer valuable insights into their well-being, including blood pressure, temperature, sugar levels, weight, height, and BMI measurements. Additionally, massage tasters and expert advice will be available to empower attendees to lead healthier lifestyles.
Food enthusiasts and those curious about vegetarian and vegan cuisine will have the chance to indulge their taste buds and learn from experts during the Vegetarian/Vegan Cooking demonstration from 1 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Discover the art of creating simple yet delicious dishes to set you on a more plant-based lifestyle.
No celebration is complete without music, and at 2 p.m., experience the uplifting power of gospel music during the Gospel Workshop. Led by talented musicians, this workshop promises to be an exhilarating journey through the history and harmonies of gospel music. Join in and discover the joy of singing together as a group.
As the day draws to a close, from 3 pm to 4 pm, revisit the history of the church building and the Seventh-day Adventists’ enduring legacy in Huddersfield. This final opportunity to delve into a shared past will leave you with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the rich tapestry of the community.
