Huddersfield manufacturer renews commitment to local environmental projects with continued backing into 2026.

A Huddersfield-based environmental charity has begun 2026 with a welcome funding boost, thanks to the continued support of local manufacturer Lesjöfors Springs UK.

Environmental Projects in Kirklees (EPIKS) has received a £1,500 pledge from vehicle springs manufacturer and distributor Lesjöfors Springs UK, strengthening a partnership that has been growing steadily over recent years.

Long-Term Support for Local Nature

Lesjöfors has supported EPIKS with annual donations since 2023 and has also encouraged its staff to volunteer on environmental projects, particularly within Huddersfield Riverside Nature Park.

The collaboration has extended beyond financial support.

In 2023, EPIKS and Lesjöfors worked together to transform land at the company’s Lindley Moor logistics hub, creating around a third of a hectare of wildflower meadow and planting native trees to form a new woodland-edge habitat.

A Thriving Habitat Takes Shape

What was once described as little more than a building site has since been transformed into a flourishing green space.

The meadow is now home to perennial wildflowers, including ox-eye daisy, knapweed, bird’s-foot trefoil, wild carrot and poppies, while newly planted trees and shrubs include alder, silver birch, field maple, crab apple, rowan, hawthorn, hazel, holly, dog rose and blackthorn.

Staff at Lesjöfors have reported enjoying the changing colours through the seasons, alongside a noticeable increase in wildlife such as bees, butterflies, grasshoppers, other invertebrates and birds.

‘A Positive Impact on Environment and Staff’

Robert Glynn, Managing Director of Lesjöfors Springs UK, said the partnership has delivered benefits well beyond environmental improvements.

“I first approached EPIKS for help in transforming the land surrounding the company’s premises from what was almost a building site into an increasingly valuable area for wildlife,” he said.

“Not only has our collaboration had a positive impact on the environment and locality, but it has also provided a fabulous team-building experience for our staff.

“We have been really happy to support the work of EPIKS and are delighted to extend that support into 2026.”

Supporting Biodiversity and Low-Carbon Travel

EPIKS director Jeff Keenlyside said the ongoing support allows the charity to plan ambitiously for the future.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to come and visit Lesjöfors and help them maintain the wildlife areas we have created together on their site,” he said.

“Their yearly contribution helps us be ambitious in promoting biodiversity for nature and wellbeing for people in Huddersfield Riverside Nature Park.

“Their support will also help fund our work to reduce carbon emissions by promoting walking, wheeling and riding.”

Call for More Business Partners in 2026

Keenlyside added that partnerships like this are central to EPIKS’ plans to expand its corporate environmental stewardship programme.

“Year-on-year support and collaboration with companies like Lesjöfors Springs UK is exactly what EPIKS is looking for as we develop our corporate environmental stewardship work,” he said.

“We’d love to add many more companies to our list of supporters and collaborators in 2026.”
