Drivers advised to plan ahead as multiple schemes begin this month

A series of roadworks are set to take place across Kirklees throughout February as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the area’s highways and transport infrastructure.

The planned works include resurfacing, essential repairs, layout improvements and the replacement of traffic signage and road markings.

Local authorities also facilitate works by external organisations, such as utility providers and developers, whose infrastructure runs beneath or connects to the road network.

Officials state that, regardless of the type of work being carried out, the priority is to minimise disruption and complete projects as efficiently as possible.

Where and When Works Will Take Place

Several schemes are scheduled to begin in early February:

• Northern Gas Works will carry out a mains replacement on Station Road, Skelmanthorpe, Huddersfield, from 2–6 February.
• Kirklees Council will undertake resurfacing on Pyrah Street and Carlton Road, Dewsbury, from 2 February–1 March.
• Amco Griffen will complete repairs to train bridge brickwork on Swan Lane, Lockwood, Huddersfield, from 2–7 February.

Later in the month, additional projects include:

• Kirklees Council highway improvements on Bradford Road, Liversedge, from 9–20 February.
• O’Connor Utilities installing a new connection on King Street, Huddersfield, from 16–20 February.
• Kirklees Council introducing traffic calming measures on Scar Lane, Golcar, Huddersfield, from 17–20 February.
• Yorkshire Water carrying out mains installation on Dam Hill and Birks Lane, Thunder Bridge, Huddersfield, from 23 February–3 April.

Investment Linked to Regeneration Plans

Transport investment forms part of wider town centre regeneration ambitions across Kirklees. Improvements ranging from pothole repairs to major bus station upgrades are intended to strengthen transport links and support long-term development projects.

Major Schemes Under Way

Huddersfield Southern Corridors – Lockwood Bar
From 16 February, night-time road closures are expected as works at Lockwood Bar enter their final stages. Signed diversions will be in place, and local businesses are expected to remain open as usual.

Huddersfield Rail Station Connections – Trinity Street
Phase one of the Huddersfield Rail Station Connections project is due to begin on Trinity Street from 9 February, with traffic management measures in operation during the works.

Residents are advised that the @Kirkleeswinter account on X is no longer monitored. Live updates during severe weather incidents are instead shared via the Live in Kirklees Facebook page. Online resources are also available offering guidance on winter preparation, emergency contacts, gritting routes and daily updates on planned gritting.

Motorists and public transport users can reduce disruption by checking live roadwork maps and journey planning tools before travelling.
