National campaign encourages families to donate pre-loved football boots and make the game more accessible
Football fans across Huddersfield are being invited to take part in National Football Rebooted Day 2026, as Utilita Energy Hubs across the UK unite for a nationwide campaign to give pre-loved football boots a new lease of life.
Taking place on Saturday, 3 October 2026, the event will see all 12 Utilita Energy Hubs come together to collect unwanted football boots, which will be refurbished and redistributed through the Football Rebooted initiative.
The campaign aims to make football more accessible to children and young people, while helping to reduce waste by keeping usable boots out of landfill.
Football legends join nationwide campaign
Events will take place simultaneously at Utilita Energy Hubs in Leith, Hartlepool, Huddersfield, Blackburn, Sheffield, Derby, Leicester, West Bromwich, Luton, Shirley in Southampton, Gosport and Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Football Rebooted Ambassador David James MBE will lead the national celebrations from Derby, while Southampton FC legend Francis Benali will visit the Shirley Hub.
At the Hartlepool Hub, former Middlesbrough FC players David Wheater and Craig Hignett, alongside current women’s player Megan Borthwick, will make a special appearance.
Club mascots will also be present at each Hub, giving supporters the opportunity to meet them and take photographs.
Huddersfield fans encouraged to get involved
At the Utilita Energy Hub on New Street in Huddersfield, visitors will be welcomed by Huddersfield Town mascot Terry the Terrier.
A dedicated Football Rebooted collection point will be available for people to donate football boots in good, reusable condition.
Those who donate will also have the chance to enter prize draws, with rewards including tickets to a Huddersfield Town FC match of their choice, an energy-efficient air fryer, Utilita Arena Sheffield tickets and a range of other spot prizes.
The Huddersfield event will also feature football-themed activities and competitions, including ‘Guess the Footballer’ and the ‘Lace Race’, giving visitors of all ages the opportunity to get involved and win prizes.
‘Everyone deserves the chance to enjoy the benefits of sport’
James Auty, Huddersfield’s Utilita Energy Hub Supervisor, said: “Everyone deserves the chance to enjoy the benefits of sport, no matter their background or financial situation. Football Rebooted Day is a fantastic opportunity for people across the UK to support their communities through a simple act of generosity.
“By donating a pair of football boots, supporters can help keep young players active in the game they love, while giving quality equipment a second life instead of sending it to landfill.”
Since its launch, Football Rebooted has helped thousands of pairs of football boots find new homes, while supporting efforts to reduce waste and tackle one of the financial barriers that can prevent children and young people from participating in sport.
Donated boots will be redistributed to local football club foundations, helping them reach young players who can benefit from the equipment.
