This October, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield is inviting the local community to take a look behind the scenes at Russell House on the 4th and 7th of October.
On the open days, people will have the chance to explore the facilities – like the sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, and cinema – meet the team, and find out more about the work they do to support children and families.
Stacy John, Forget Me Not’s family support team leader, said: “When people visit Russell House they’re often surprised at what they discover. Where they might have imagined somewhere sad, gloomy or even scary, they find a real home-from-home, a place of comfort and support, even laughter and joy.”
“This realisation can change lives. We met one family last April who, unable to face using a children’s hospice, had struggled on alone for over 10 years. But their experience at the open day changed their perspective and gave them the confidence to ask for help. They’re now receiving the care and support they and their child have needed for so long.”
Stacy said: “But you don’t have to be a family in need to come along. Whether you’ve been a supporter of Forget Me Not for years, have only recently heard of us or are interested in volunteering or working with us, this is a great opportunity to find out what we’re really all about. We’d love to see you!”
