A fundraising golf day arranged by some of Kirklees Council’s engineers raised an impressive £2809.50 for two local charities.
More than 50 colleagues, friends and family took part in the event at Bradley Park Golf Club on Friday 23 September to remember former colleagues and friends Mark Dobson and Geof Thorp and raise funds for The Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal and the Mark Dobson Foundation for grassroots football.
Money was raised throughout the day from the £25 entry fee and a collection bucket. At work, a raffle was held thanks to the generous support of local businesses who donated prizes.
There was also a sealed bid auction for a V.I.P box at the Manchester Utd v Tottenham Hotspur game on Sunday 11 December 2016 – the winning sealed bid was £801.
Organiser James Donoghue, Senior Engineer said: “A fantastic time was had by all; the weather was great and we raised a glass or two afterwards in memory of our two friends and former colleagues – I know Geof & Mark would have loved the jokes, beer and socialising. I’d like to say a big thank you to the golfers and everyone who helped with the raffle and bought tickets.”
The winners of the Golf Tournament were Andy Maud from Kirklees Council Highways and Graham Garside from Bradford Council Highways who won with an impressive 41 points.
Both charities received £1404.75.
