Half a million discounted train tickets are now available for journeys across the North of England, Northern has announced.
The train operator has reduced the price of select Advance Purchase tickets by 50% as part of the nationwide ‘Rail Sale’.
The sale, which began today (Tuesday, 14 January), will run until Monday, 20 January.
Travel Dates and Ticket Availability
The discounted tickets are valid for travel between Sunday, 19 January, and Monday, 31 March 2025.
Passengers can purchase these tickets through Northern’s website, northernrailway.co.uk, or at ticket offices across the network.
Alex Hornby, Northern’s Commercial and Customer Director, commented on the sale: “The 500,000 Advance Purchase tickets we’re making available for the Rail Sale will be spread the length and breadth of our network.
“Northern already offers exceptional value for money – with the average price of a journey with Northern costing around £4 – and so we’re pleased to be able to offer these Rail Sale fares to our customers, making the train an even more attractive option.”
Part of Railway 200 Celebrations
The Rail Sale is among the first national events to commemorate Railway 200, a year-long celebration of the 200th anniversary of rail travel in the UK.
This milestone marks the inaugural journey of George Stephenson’s steam-powered Locomotion No. 1, which travelled 26 miles between Shildon, Darlington, and Stockton on 27 September 1825.
