Residents urged to give feedback before consultation closes on new Local Transport Plan

People across West Yorkshire have just one week left to share their views on a major new transport plan that will shape how the region travels for years to come.

The West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan outlines how future improvements will be prioritised as part of the emerging integrated Weaver Network, a system designed to connect buses, trains, cycling, walking and future modes such as trams into one seamless network.

A 12-week public consultation is due to close at 11:59 pm on Tuesday 21 October, and residents are being encouraged to take part before time runs out.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, called on residents to make their voices heard.

“We’ve started to make important changes to our transport system so it works for everyone across the region.

“This plan is vital to the success of our integrated Weaver Network to ensure it’s easy to use, affordable and gets you where you need to go.

“Please take the time to share your views and help us create a greener, better-connected region that works for all.”

What the New Transport Plan Aims to Deliver

Developed in partnership with the region’s five local authorities, the plan will replace the 2017 Transport Strategy 2040 once adopted.

It builds on feedback from last year’s public and stakeholder engagement, with many of those views already reflected in the draft.

The long-term goal is to make travelling in West Yorkshire smoother, cleaner and more inclusive, connecting people to jobs, education, healthcare and leisure with ease.

Key ambitions include:

• Affordable fares to make public transport accessible to all

• Seamless connections between different modes of travel

• Reliable and consistent journey times across the network

• Cleaner and greener travel choices, helping improve health and meet the region’s net zero carbon target by 2038
