Community awaits council decision on landmark transfer of cherished space

The HUDAWI Cultural Centre, a much-loved community hub in Huddersfield, is on the brink of a defining moment in its history.

On 9 September 2025, Kirklees Council will deliver its final verdict on whether to approve the Community Asset Transfer of the building to the HUDAWI Consortium.

If successful, the decision could safeguard the centre’s future for generations to come. For many in Huddersfield’s African and Caribbean communities, the HUDAWI Centre has always been more than just bricks and mortar – it is a home for culture, heritage, learning, and togetherness.

Though some time has passed since the last update, the Consortium has been working diligently behind the scenes to strengthen its bid.
