Solihull showcase celebrates the courage and legacy of Caribbean men and women who served Britain during the Second World War

A powerful new exhibition at The Heritage Gallery, The Core, Solihull, is bringing long-overdue recognition to the Caribbean men and women who served with distinction during the Second World War.

Hosted by the Caribbean Family History Group in partnership with the ‘Why Are West Indians in This Country?’ project, the exhibition pays tribute to the resilience, courage, and sacrifice of Caribbean service personnel whose contributions have often been overlooked in British history.

Remembering Local Hero Prince Albert Jacob

Among those honoured is Prince Albert Jacob, a Solihull RAF veteran who celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this year.

His remarkable story is featured alongside others who crossed oceans to support the war effort, serving in the RAF, Army, and Navy, and contributing to Britain’s post-war rebuilding.

A Journey Through History

The exhibition, titled ‘Honouring Our Caribbean WWII Service Personnel’, invites visitors to explore the personal stories, photographs, and records that reveal the depth of Caribbean involvement in the war.

A full programme of workshops, guest talks, research meetings, and virtual tours offers a chance to connect with this rich and vital aspect of British and Caribbean heritage. Through these interactive sessions, visitors can gain new insights into family history, military archives, and the lived experiences of Caribbean communities during and after the war.

The exhibition is free to view until 30 November at The Heritage Gallery, The Core Library, Theatre Square, Touchwood, Solihull.
