Community gathers to celebrate the service and sacrifice of local veterans

On Sunday, 9 November, the Huddersfield New Testament Church of God hosted a heartfelt service recognising the often-overlooked contributions of the Windrush generation to the British Armed Forces.

The event featured tributes from two local veterans, Dr Milton Brown and Terry Primus, whose personal stories brought history to life for those in attendance.

A Glimpse into Forgotten Histories

The gathering opened with a screening of the trailer for Huddersfield Windrush Forgotten Veterans, a documentary produced by Kirklees Local TV.

The film, available to watch on the KLTV website and YouTube, offers an intimate look into the experiences of Caribbean men and women who served Britain with distinction despite facing discrimination both during and after their military service.

Following the screening, Dr Brown and Mr Primus shared powerful recollections of their time in the Royal Air Force.

They spoke candidly about the day they enlisted, their experiences serving a nation that did not always welcome them, and the challenges of returning to civilian life.

Their accounts reflected the courage, resilience, and dignity that defined the Windrush generation and all those who chose to serve.
